Nancy's Dream

Nancy will be remembered with much love by family, friends and patients scattered across the world.

She was born in Bahrain in 1966, raised in Berkshire and trained at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, Paddington. She worked in hospitals in London, Surrey and Essex before becoming a G.P. finally settling in Castle Hedingham, Essex. She married Bill, her partner in life and work, in 1998 and their lovely children were born in 2001 and 2003.

An enthusiastic traveller, Nancy had visited Africa, India and Thailand as well as most of Europe. Latterly Kos had become a regular family destination and when by chance on their last visit she found that it had been the home of Hippocrates she felt she knew why it was a special place for her.

Nancy's smile and infectious laughter are usually the first things mentioned by those who knew her; she did have a fine sense of humour and wonderful turn of phrase; patients would say that they always felt better after visiting her, whatever the treatment prescribed. She was also tenacious in her problem solving and would take up causes others might think lost, whether it be related to her work and her patients or home.

Despite her illness Nancy continued to "count her blessings" and the love, care, and compassion she showed for family, friends and patients, and the way she lived her life with cancer from December 2003 to May 2009 was an inspiration to us all.

Nancy believed in a holistic approach to medicine and, always open to new knowledge, had extended her healing work as a doctor and friend into Homeopathy and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) and had had some remarkable success with these alternative treatments.

As a patient herself, following a mastectomy, she suffered from lymphoedema and this painful condition was greatly relieved by Manual Lymphatic Drainage. Nancy was upset to find that there were insufficient practitioners to meet the need for this treatment.

Nancy's dream was to establish a holistic centre for cancer sufferers and increase the number of patients able to receive MLD.

Although unable to fulfil Nancy's dream, the Trust was set up by her parents, in her memory, to finance training for NHS Staff in Lymphoedema Management, including Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD) and in Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) in the belief that Nancy would have been pleased to know that others could learn and benefit from these healing techniques that she had found so helpful.
