FUND RAISING
Toppesfield Playgroup
We were delighted that the Toppesfield’s Little Chestnuts Playgroup made such a generous donation to the Trust of £150 at the beginning of August.
Toppesfield & Gainsford End WI
The WI continues to make donations to Nancy’s Trust and have over this year contributed a very significant sum. We very much appreciate their on-going support.
Toppesfield Shop
We are grateful to everyone who drops their contributions into the shop collection. The fact that people continue do this means a lot to us.
Toppesfield Fund Raising Concert
Once again this event, initiated by the Red Barrows and Bernie Stevenson and hosted by Tony at The Green Man marquee, raised the huge sum of £1025. The dulcet tones of ‘Reptile Dysfunction’ along with two other bands provided the music. It was a fantastic effort from all concerned, not least the three bands who all gave their services free.
From talking to our friends at the hospices the emphasis is changing to more home care and this has led to an even greater need for a flexible multi-skilled staff. The 3 day course for 12 people which Deb Hickie, Head of Care Services, organised and hosted at St. Luke’s Hospice, Basildon, was lead by Jane Wigg from Haddenham Healthcare and funded by The Nancy Salmon Trust. It provided training for staff to support current MLD therapists.
The event proved to be another opportunity for the Essex/Suffolk hospice staff to get together and enhance their network.
Our first trust funded course was held at St. Nicholas’ Hospice, Bury St. Edmunds with delegates from St. Nicholas, St. Helena’s Hospice, Colchester, Helen Rollason Centre, Chelmsford, St. Luke’s, Basildon and St. Peter’s Hospital, Maldon.
The course was taught by Emma Roberts and Sue Beer, EFT Masters from the iEFT Centre in London.
Our thanks must go to Rachel Brown and Madeline Bass of St. Nicholas who organised and promoted the event for the Trust, to Julie Parrott who made introductory visits to St. Helena’s and liaised with Emma and Sue, to the staff at St. Nicholas and to all the enthusiastic delegates we had the pleasure of meeting before the course started.
A report and further information about the event can be found on the NEWS page.
Sadly Iain sustained a badly pulled ham string muscle and was unable to compete in the PARAS 10 event but instead entered for what sounded like an even more exacting event, the
race held on the 21st November 2010 at Bure Pits, Colchester. It is run over one of the toughest terrains possible and includes wading through waist deep water-filled pits, crossing mud-filled tracks, scrabbling up and down near vertical mud covered hills and dealing with lots of mud. Iain said that it was great fun and very mucky and he had a great result coming 30th out of a field of 145. Fantastic Iain and we look forward to hearing your plans for 2011.
Assuming that Iain has recovered from his injury he will also be taking part in the Great Notley Duathlon on the 17th October - details at www.born2tri.com. So if you fancy watching this combined running and cycling race get along to Great Notley and cheer Iain on.
Iain is making a tremendous personal effort towards fund raising this year and with the help of his supporters has already raised nearly £200.
Fund Raising
Red Barrows
Nancy’s home village of Toppesfield continues to give magnificent support to the Trust and this week we received £500 from The Red Barrows who recently organised a concert.
Bernie reported that two bands played at The Green Man; the one man band called Jamie and a local band called Voodoo Child. About 100 people enjoyed the music and games and a good time was had by all.
Toppesfield & Gainsford End WI
Also within the last couple of weeks we have received a donation of £40 from the Toppesfield and Gainsford End WI raised at a ‘bring & buy’ stall. We also understand that the WI members hope to raise more for Nancy’s Trust in the future which is very good news.
Georgia Lang
We are of course always extremely grateful to receive contributions to the Trust, large or small, and at times when we know the story behind the donation it is as heart warming as the gift itself.

Georgia Lang, who is 12 years old, met and chatted to Nancy on several occasions when she visited her Grandmother who works in the Castle Hedingham surgery. A few weeks ago Georgia had a “spring clean” and decided to sell her unwanted toys. It must have been a very thorough clear out as she raised £70!
There are so many ways Georgia could have spent her money, however she wanted it to be used for a good cause and, remembering Nancy, decided to donate it to her Trust.
We were very impressed by Georgia’s resourcefulness and generosity of spirit.
